I recently purchased this great piece of kit, and I thought I’d post a review. Lets take a look at whats inside!
Here is a quick snap of the box and all the goodies inside.
This is a sturdy heated drying rack with a heater source in the base, all enclosed by a zipped tent like bag to isolate and speed up the drying. Once taken apart it fits into a small carry bag which you can throw over your shoulder and is really easy and quick to assemble when required. It weighs less than 6kg.
It came with an EU compatible plug – 250V plug with two round pins and a 16A fuse. I simply used an adaptor from Sainburys to get things started. (Note: Please seek proper advice about electrics – I have no expertise in this area)
The unit is strong and large enough to take my XL body armour (chest), padded shorts, elbow guards, astros, helmet, smock, overshorts, liner gloves and probably plenty more if I tried. You just hang your soft kit from the racks at the top (metal S shaped hooks are proved to hold your gear up), wrap the zipped bag around the whole thing (to keep in the heat & channel the breeze), and set the dial to required time or use the manual function.
They recommend 45-60 minutes, but depending on how wet your kit is, you may need to adjust the timer accordingly. After 1 hour and 30minutes of ice but, my kit was pretty wet (first time back on the ice in around 8 weeks) it took me just over an hour to get my kit bone dry. I guess the timing depends on how full you pack the drier, how wet the kit is, and the humidity the room air.
The Rocket Dryer would be ideal for those that travel to play and play multiple times a week. Its also great for players that want to maintain fresh smelling equipment. I’m just getting back into hockey after a break, the last time I played was at Uni. Playing casually a couple times a week while living in halls/rented rooms, this is simply ideal to prevent that horrid smell that can build up.
This Rocket Dryer is perfect for use in halls, hotels, home’s and is perfect for my small house. It fits into the corner of a bedroom, and is quiet enough that you don’t realise it’s on if you’re in the next room (about as loud as an extractor fan). I would THOROUGHLY recommend this dryer to any keeper that doesn’t have a porch in permanent sunshine. It will keep the stench at bay, and will presumably prolong the life of my kit also. For around £100 plus postage, this dryer isn’t cheap, but I recon I’ll soon be lost without it! Great idea for a Christmas present, or a subtle way to tell your beloved keeper that (s)he smells! A must have this season!
