Post Backwards crossovers

I can do them one way decent and the other way is dodgey.

Going my good way, i do a crossover, c cut, bring the skate in front of the other skate and slightly inside no problem. I can do a crossover and hold the position with both skates on ice, i can do them fast or slow.

The opposite way, i can not get on my outside edge correctly, my foot either just slides backwards, or i don't really get on the outside edge, its on both.

I have started going skating in the mornings now, £5 to skate from 6am till 10am on patch ice, 99% figure skaters, but they are ok. I do 7am till 8:30am

As stilly as it sounds.. you have tried getting in the correct position for backwards crossovers (on your weak side) off the ice? just standing on carpet or on the rubber flooring at your ice rink while practicing placing your legs and blade edges in the correct positions can work wonders !

The biggest problem skaters have is either "mind over matter" thinking you can't means you can't (over come that and your golden) or its a flexibility problem where by your legs can't get into a specific position without either moving your upper body of centre balance or just pulling you all over the place. Both of these can be quickly overcome by practicing the positions off and on the ice building your muscle memory and flexibility. When you get your legs into the right position, hold that position and try and get it lower and tighter, give your muscles a hard to so they remember. Roller blades are also a great option, Bauer vapour rx05 for off ice practice.

Perhaps a video on drills, stretches and methods to overcome ?

90% i know, have a problems doing things the other way. And from what i heard from friends that went to a week hockey camp with Elite league players, its just mind of matter.

I feel I'm doing something wrong with my body. But i think a video will help.

Going to be on the ice 5 days a week now with twice on a Wednesday just working on fundamentals and on my weaker side of everything.

That's defiantly enough time on the ice to overcome any issues, I need to get myself a new car (diesel) so I can do the same!

You might consider joining the beginner to intermediate figure skating class. In figure skating they train the body and mind not to favor your strong side. Basically they force a skater to do what he's weaker at.

Sounds good Jedi. Team had a skating lesson off someone who has coached some of the Cardiff Devils, everyone was poor at crossovers for example. She had us doing these lunge type things and just turning the shoulders, its worked wonders.

Last two hockey sessions have been great, got a feeling i might get on Line 4 in a friendly in 2 weeks aswell.

I have been working on outside edges and getting rid of some problems with forward crossovers (I was lifting my leg to high and lifting my hip). I also worked on my weaker side which, in hockey gear i couldn't do 1.

But Wed & Thur i was doing them easy, just looking up not thinking about it. Got comments on my skating having rhythm instead of being robotic, and my breakouts were good so i was chuffed ;)

Practice deffo pays off in skating, stick the time and effort in and you will be rewarded!
