Post size confusion???

hi everyone....i'm wanting to invest roughly a £100 in some skates...the ones i have my eye on are bauer vapor 1.0's.
i would consider myself a beginner but i can skate ok, just never had my own skates.
would these skates be ok?

thing is i have no idea about sizing other than what i have learnt over the past few days from this and other sites. i thought (as did the majority of friends) that i needed a size bigger.

i measured my feet wearing sports socks which i intend on wearing with skates and i got a length of 25.1 which appears to be size 6 and half uk size according to charts i have checked.
i got a ratio of 2.57 which i believe to be an E in width.

so here is my problem....when i referred to the converter on this site it said i would need a skate size 6 in any skate...ccm, reebok, the lot!

firstly i thought all skates fitted different and secondly i was aware after much research bauer skates needed to be a size and half smaller.

even though the converter says 6 should i still go for a 5 which would be a size and half smaller?

also i noticed the lower priced range of skates don't seem to have multiple widths, only R or D and i simply cant afford to invest in anything more costly. would R skates fit my ratio even though the guide suggests E? if not could anyone suggest any skates that would?

i fully intend on going into my local skate shop and trying some on but i am so confused about what size to ask for and the difference between junior and senior skates is a factor here too as junior are 5 and senior are 6 and there is quite a significant price difference.

sorry this is long winded but i just want to get some proper fitting skates as i get a lot of pain in hired or borrowed skates. would hate to waste my money on a pair that are not going to fit properly.
i've researched on many sites and info seems to vary quite a lot...for example...one site said CCM skates fit to your shoe size and another said you need to buy a size and half smaller.

any help would be appreciated if anyone can be bothered to read lol.

great site by the way, can't wait to get back on the ice and get practicing some of the techniques i've learnt. =0)

Hi and welcome Randy

Firstly those skates would be a great place to start off with, they are a little expensive if I'm honest for a first pair (especially with an E width) don't forget that those are the a new line of Bauer skates X1.0 x2.0 etc so you'll find they are a little expensive. I would recommend the Supreme line (Bauer Supreme One20) Bauer have two different lines Vapor and Supreme, they Supreme line have a slightly wider fit, so they would accommodate your width size much better than a D or R with Vapor skate (I'd really recommend trying them both on)

Sizing is one of those headaches that needs to be resolved by either using the method from home that i posted a video on "How to find your skate size and width from home" only use this method if you do not have access to a hockey store, this method works only if all the sizing & converting is done correctly (the old saying of half size up or down isn't accurate enough so I wouldn't recommend it) using the sizing video and then charts provided on this site are a better option. As you have the option to, I'd personally visit the store to get a your size measured on their sizers even if you don't intend on buying from them (as online is often cheaper) use this time in the store to be sure of your size in the preferred brand and also to get an idea of the comfort of the skates.

When you visit your store and try on a pair of skates, lace them up and stand up in them for a few mins to see if you get any cramping or pain, try to make note of the areas that hurt (if any).

This will give you an idea of what to expect.

Please let me know if you need more info or if i left any questions :)

I agree with chris in terms of getting the right feel for the skates, the only way to really get the feel for the skate is to try them on and see which you prefer.

also, if you're thinking of picking up the Bauer Vapor x1.0 I would say (if possible of course) take it a step up to the x2.0's, you get a lot more for your money. I'm not sure how much they would cost where you live but where I am from the difference is $20 (canadian). But considering you have a wider foot the Bauer Supreme One20 would be better, I've owned a pair of Supreme One20's and they're really good especially if you're a beginner, but yeah in the end it's all about preference. Right now I own a pair of Bauer Vapor x3.0's (i have a slimmer foot) and I just love them ! fits very snug and doesn't feel loose at the top unlike most skates i've tried on

hope that helps (: goodluck!

Hey guys. I also need some help regarding skate sizing....and unfortunately I dont have the option of going to a shop. I currently wear an Easton S17 skate size 8R. I am however in the process of buying a pair of Bauer APX, but I am stuck in between a size 7.5D and 8D. According to some internetshos it is a straight conversion fom Easton to Bauer and I should just get an 8 Bauer. I am however hesitant as the Bauer does seem like a bigger skate an if I look at te EU and US size it doesnt make sense either. An Easton 8 is a Eur 42 and a Bauer 8 is a 43. I dont want a skate thats too big or too small especially concidering what I am paying.I looked at Chris's video and my feet are at 26.6 CM. Please offer your advise. Thanks for a great site.

You would need a size 9 in Bauer Vapor if your length is 26.6

Hey. I am not sure if thats correct.A 9 or 9.5 is my actual shoe size A 9 will be massive n my foot. I tried a 8.5 the other day and it was way too big. According to this site:http://hockeytutorial.com/skating-tips/ice-hockey-skate-sizing-chart-width-and-length/ I am in between a 7.5 and 8. But I just need to double check that.

Ask them if you will be able to send the skates back if there the wrong size? (As long as you don't take them on ice)
